Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) is located on the northeast side of Madrid. It is around 12 km away from the city centre. The airport was previously known as Madrid Barajas and later it was named Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas. It is the first airport and is 5th largest airport in Europe. The airport was inaugurated in 1928 and is considered to be one of the most important aviation hub of Europe. The airport name is derived from the district Barajas that is located adjacent to the site of the airprot. The airport is well connected with the city through the metro station and various transports. It is considered to be the key airport linking Europe to Latin America.
Terminal
The airport has four terminals, one satellite building and two docks. It also has an executive terminal and a cargo terminal
Terminal 1 - It is usually used for international destinationadn is mostly used by more than 30 airlines.
Terminal 2 - IT is mostly used for Domestic and Intra Schengen flights and is one of the oldest building in the airport.
Terminal 3 - Terminal 3 is just an extension of Terminal T2 with separate check-in areas and other facilities.
Terminal 4 - The terminal 4 is designed to provide stress free journey experience to passengers. This addition has increased the overall capacity to 70 million passenger per annum.
