It was finally taken from the Mongols by defeating them in the Battle of Kulikov. Afterward, the Mongols played an important role in liberating Russia from Mongol domination. In 1571, the Crimean Tatars captured Moscow burning the whole city except the Kremlin. The city was crafted again with the development of 50 towers that were erected around the city. Many famous landmarks were built during this period. It prospered both economically and socially. It became part of the Roman Empire and later served to the Soviet Union. In 1991, it officially became the Russian Federation. Moscow is also famously called as the third Rome because of the religious landmarks present in the city.
Moscow also has a well-established transit network consisting of the extensive road network, nine railway terminals, numerous tram network, and four international airports. It is also the city of one of the deepest underground rapid transit systems in the world that makes it an accessible city for the tourists and its inhabitants.

It has served as the capital of medieval Grand Duchy, Tsardom of Russia, Russian Empire, Soviet Union, and the contemporary Russian Federation.
