Moscow is the capital of Russia with a population of around 13.2 million residents residing int he country. It is one of the major hubs and metropolitan cities of Russian federation. Moscow has always served as the major political, economic, and scientifical institute for both Europe and the world. This Russian city is home to the Ostankino Tower, the tallest free-standing structure in Europe, the Federation Tower, and many more landmarks. The city itself is located on the Moskva River in the Central District of European Russia. Moscow is famous for its architecture and historical buildings that have given the city a colorful style.

The evidence of the city goes back to the Neolithic Period reflecting the Fatyanovskaya culture and serving as the site of Iron age settlement. In the 9th century, the Oka River was part of the Volga trade route that served as the contact point between the indigenous Finno-Ugric and the Volha Bulgars. It also expanded the territory of the region to Scandinavian and Slavic people. Later it was conquered by the Mongols and was ruled by Batu Khan who killed the inhabitants of the city. But it was captured by Daniel, the youngest son of Alexander Nevsky in 1260. Daniel has been credited as the founding father of the first Moscow monasteries. During this time it was a stable region and it prospered.  

It was finally taken from the Mongols by defeating them in the Battle of Kulikov. Afterward, the Mongols played an important role in liberating Russia from Mongol domination. In 1571, the Crimean Tatars captured Moscow burning the whole city except the Kremlin. The city was crafted again with the development of 50 towers that were erected around the city. Many famous landmarks were built during this period. It prospered both economically and socially. It became part of the Roman Empire and later served to the Soviet Union. In 1991, it officially became the Russian Federation. Moscow is also famously called as the third Rome because of the religious landmarks present in the city. 

Moscow also has a well-established transit network consisting of the extensive road network, nine railway terminals, numerous tram network, and four international airports. It is also the city of one of the deepest underground rapid transit systems in the world that makes it an accessible city for the tourists and its inhabitants.
