Female solo travellers are now a common trend. City itself is safe but being cautious is worth everything. You should avoid isolated dark places at night. Beware of your surroundings.

Beware of the fake tourist guides that are common in places like Sultanahmet. They will chase you and will tell about their expertise by sharing tips on how to avoid queues outside museum. Dont be fooled by such approaches. Check their Government Tourist licence as a proof. If they cannot show them dont trust them.
Traffic
Istanbul being a cosmopolitan city has traffic as one of the biggest problem. Peak hours are 7 am to 10 am in the morning and 4 pm to 8 pm in the afternoon. But you can avoid trafic rush by using public transport and adjusting your work time in accordance to the peak times.

Its a normal that during night, the city becomes a bit unsafe especially around dark corners of the streets. Try to avoid isolated areas and do not walk alone with lot of money especially.
